Benzie County Community Chorus Sound of Summer 2017 Concert

The Benzie County Community Chorus was thinking of the days ahead when it began rehearsals in February for SOUND OF SUMMER, 2017. The 50-member group under the direction of Dinah Haag will present six performances of this year’s show entitled “Come Fly With Us.” Songs such as Blue Skies, Moonglow and What a Wonderful World establish the travel mood. Then it’s off to various world locations: Ireland and the beautiful Danny Boy; Scotland; Hungary (where you’ll meet the Handsome Butcher); Japan, and the haunting melody Sakura. We’ll Waltz with Matilda in Australia and visit the dark continent for a rousing arrangement of Africa (complete with weather.) In the show’s second half we’ll spend time in Paris and other environs known for their reputations for food and romance. Then it’s back to the USA and some gospel selections including a brand new piece written by Traverse City’s own Jeff Cobb. The haunting melody Woodsmoke and Oranges closes the show as we return to Northern Michigan. As is the case each year, interspersed with the choral arrangements are solos and small group numbers. Our accompanist this year is the multi-talented Christi Case Director of Vocal Music for Benzie Central High School. We are happy to have her with us. Performances are on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, June 24, 25 and 26 and again on Saturday, Sunday and Monday July 8, 9, and 10. All shows will be at 7:30 in the Mills Community House Theatre in Benzonia. The price of tickets is $15 for adults and $10 for children 16 and under. There is no reserved seating. Tickets will be available at the door on the evenings of performance until house capacity is reached. No credit card payments can be accepted on the nights of performance.
